Airport Carbon Accreditation recently announced that Faro Airport is among 10 Portuguese airports to successfully achieve a renewal at Level 2 Reduction of Airport Carbon Accreditation. The other airports are:
- Lisbon Portela Airport
- Porto Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport
- Ponta Delgada Joao Paulo II Airport
- Madeira Airport
- Horta Airport
- Santa Maria Airport
- Flores Airport
- Porto Santo Airport
- Beja Airport
This renewal confirms that Faro Airport has successfully reduced its C02 output. The Airport Carbon Accreditation is part of an initiative to help airports focus on the environmental impact of their installations. The accreditation also helps airports across the world to manage, reduce and neutralise their carbon footprint.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation was originally set up in 2009, the result of an initiative launched by ACI EUROPE’s member airports in June 2008 aimed at achieving a landmark resolution on climate change. Members were committed to reducing their carbon emissions with the goal of becoming carbon neutral. For more information, visit the Airport Carbon Accreditation website.
