Praia da Falésia in the Algarve has ranked number one in this year’s Travelers’ Choice Awards for the best beaches in the world. The “best of the best” awards were created to “celebrate the highest level of excellence in travel”.
The winners are those that receive a high volume of “above-and-beyond” reviews and opinions from the Tripadvisor community over a 12-month period. Out of their eight million listings, fewer than one per cent achieve this milestone.
Referring to the beach category, Tripadvisor noted, “Golden sands, rugged coastlines, clear blue waters – this year’s winning beaches are traveller faves for everything from lazy beach days to underwater adventures.
“Praia da Falésia is known for its dramatic cliffs, golden sands and sparkling blue waters. Sunbathe on the huge shore, go swimming or body surfing in the waves, or stroll along the scenic footpath on top of the cliffs and check out the incredible views.”
Located in the Olhos de Água area of Albufeira municipality, the beach has been awarded Blue Flag recognition for its cleanliness, and it offers visitors restrooms, a snack bar and convenient transport connections.
Last year, the Algarve region was named “Europe’s Leading Beach Destination” for a 10th time in the World Travel Awards.
